Laptops for charity: Close The Gap Our Internal IT team did another very generous donation to Close The Gap, an organization that refurbishes computer hardware for children in underdeveloped countries. This time we gave 63 Laptops, 16 IT devices and 21 computer screens! This is already the 3rd time Protime donated, and it makes us proud to be able to help children in need. :-)

Japanese Bulk Carrier MV Wakashio - Ecological Disaster in Mauritian Lagoon The Japanese bulk carrier MV Wakashio went down the ocean as it was scuttled on the 24th August 2020, and the ship took more with it than just its own debris. Pointe d'Esny, south of Mauritius, lost its stunning turquoise waters, and many fishermen forgone their main source of income as the oil leaked into the water affecting the fish and their job. Imagine being the breadwinner, relying on the bounty of the sea to feed your family this is not easy to take on. With the Covid outbreak causing enough damage worldwide, the oil leak was akin to adding salt to the wound. The SD Worx Payback Committee, in an attempt to ease the affected families hardship, went out to buy grocery items and donate to those who were directly impacted. On the 18th September 2020, a group from our Committee went to Mahebourg, visited the families, house after house, and provided support. We donated several food items, milk for children, diapers, school items, clothes among other things direly need by the families. That moment of relief that is seen in their eyes makes our work all worth it. Because in the end, that is our purpose - to make a difference.

Food donation to the various charitable organisation post covid A light of Hope in this dark hour As we breathed a sigh of relief after the lockdown had been lifted, some were still struggling to go back to the new normal. Consequently, Payback tried its best to bring some relief to those who were deeply affected by the Pandemic; encouraging everyone at SD Worx to donate whatever they can to those who were more in need. Payback had organized a Food Collection event lasting for 13 Days, which resulted in us collecting 3 massive boxes filled with food items. These were all distributed to 3 charitable organisations; Abri de Nuit, Gayasingh Ashram and Solidarite St F. D'Assise, who were in dire need for just the necessities. The generosity that people showed really helped and supported these organisations in making it through this difficult period. A special thanks goes to all those colleagues who made that extra effort to ease the path of those in need. The blow that hit the entirely world had left us all distressed and bruised, but yet unified and in solidarity.

Inauguration of learning centre A trip to open the door of education On the Tuesday, 21st August 2020, a few representatives from Payback drove to Baie du Tombeau, a region in the north western coast of Mauritius, to bring to a conclusion the renovation project of the Reading area at Association des Amis de Don Bosco. This project was supported by our Payback Association following a Charity concert that was held in Kas Poz sometime last year. We had raised a total of Rs 125 000, helping us to remake the area - a work consisting of repainting, repairing & furnishing, in addition of the purchase of tablets. We brought the Reading area to a state where children could in fact enjoy a good read without any sort of discomfort. As the representative spoke, on the day of the inauguration, of the difficulty previously faced because of the poor condition of the reading area, we were content not to have renovated the space but simply to be given the opportunity to bring a change in their lives, and a much needed one it was for the children. Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Nelson Mandela
